Other Ways to Cool Your Old Home Efficiently

Cooling an old home can be challenging. After all, it may not have the infrastructure required to accommodate a modern HVAC system. Fortunately, you can rely on your local HVAC technician to provide you with enough information on which cooling options work best for your situation. If ducting isn’t possible, for instance, a ductless mini-split HVAC would be a great choice to consider.

In addition to that, you can also cool your old home in many other ways, including the following:

1. Use your windows. When it gets unbearably hot indoors, always open your windows for just a few minutes. The cooling breezes entering your home aren’t the only great thing about this. When you need to ventilate your home to get rid of stale air, you can open the windows on both sides of your home. This way, you facilitate air circulation and take advantage of passive ventilation.

2. Install a whole-house fan. A whole-house fan vents hot air and draws in the fresh air. It is an enormous, permanently connected fan that drives air into your attic, where heat escapes through roof vents. As a whole house fan runs, you open windows to let in the fresh air. Running a house fan at night or early morning helps cool the house.

3. Insulate your attic. Older homes lack the necessary insulation to keep your indoor environment comfortable. If yours don’t have enough of it, install one in your attic. It is one of the effective ways to keep your home cooler during the summer months. It regulates home temperatures while taking the pressure off your air conditioning system.

4. Plant trees near your old home. With the right placement, trees provide shade to enhance your old home’s comfort needs. They’re effective at blocking direct sunlight from reaching your home. Doing this also improves your home’s curb appeal.
