3 Things to Consider When Replacing Your Furnace This Spring

If your furnace is old and no longer as efficient at providing heating as before, it might be time to have it replaced, and there’s no better time to do it than this spring. But before making the investment, there are a few things you need to consider first. Perfect Degree HVAC shares a few of them here.

Sizing. You may be thinking that bigger is better, but that’s not always the case, especially when choosing an HVAC system. The wrong furnace size can lead to uncomfortable temperatures and unnecessary expenses. That’s why our team of certified technicians will take your home’s square footage, level of insulation and local climate into account when determining the size of your new furnace. Unless you just want the new unit to be the same size as the old one, it’s best to have the pros determine the right size for your home.

Furnace ratings. Be sure to take your new furnace’s ratings into account. While air conditioners have a SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) rating, heating systems have the AFUE (Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency) rating. It’s a standard measurement of how efficiently a furnace converts energy from the fuel it uses into warm air to heat your home. The current minimum allowed for gas furnaces is 80% AFUE. If you want to save on energy costs, go for a high-efficiency unit with an AFUE of between 90% and 98%.

Energy efficiency. Modern furnaces have energy-efficient features that can help you save on costs. These include:

  • Dual heat exchanger – Newer furnaces have not one, but two heat exchangers. This makes heating your home faster and more efficient.
  • Modulated heating – A furnace with this feature will always ensure that your home’s heat is within one or two degrees of the set point. It also keeps your home from getting too hot.
  • Variable-speed blower – This will help your furnace deliver heated air more slowly and keep it from making too much noise.

If you’re thinking about replacing your furnace, this spring is a great time to do so, and who better to do it with than Perfect Degree HVAC? Call us now at (610) 529-7372 or fill out our contact form for a consultation.
