4 Tips for Keeping Common Spring Allergens at Bay

Flowers in bloom and pleasant weather all around–for many, this is what spring is all about. For those who suffer from seasonal allergies, however, the season isn’t something to which they look forward, and rightfully so. This is because pollen, dust and other allergens float in the air and eventually make their way indoors, where they cause sneezing and coughing fits.

These airborne particles might be everywhere, but there are many ways of keeping them at bay. Here Perfect Degree HVAC gives four tips for doing this.

Dust regularly. Maintaining a regular cleaning routine can help keep allergens out of your house. When dusting, use a damp cloth to trap dust and allergens instead of sending it back into the air. Doing it this way prevents allergens from entering the air supply and getting into your HVAC system.

Change your air filter. Your HVAC filters are designed to keep pollen, dust and other allergens from entering your HVAC system. Make sure they’re replaced at least every three months–or even as often as once a month–depending on your HVAC usage. For best results, buy the highest-quality air filters that will work for your unit.

Use your AC unit. It can be tempting to open your windows to let in fresh outdoor air, but this may contaminate your indoor air in the process. It’s better to use your air conditioning unit for cooling your home and also ensuring that it’s allergen-free. See to it that you keep it well-maintained by scheduling regular inspections. This will help you make certain that your unit is working properly and catching all of those allergens in the indoor air.

Invest in an air purifier. Boost your home’s indoor air quality with an air purifier, which has a set of filters and a fan that draws in and circulates indoor air. As air moves through the filter, airborne pollutants are captured and clean air is pushed back out into your living spaces.
