Gas Furnace Issues You Should Never Ignore

Your gas furnace can work well for about 15 to 20 years with proper care and maintenance. However, some issues might still arise and cause a threat to your property and safety.

Keep reading as Perfect Degree HVAC, your go-to cooling and heating repair company discusses the gas furnace problems you should address immediately.

Delayed Ignition

Delayed ignition happens when your burners aren’t immediately igniting even though your furnace is getting gas. This causes the gas to build up inside the combustion chamber, and when your furnace starts to run, it will explode. These mini-explosions put stress on your furnace, leading to a possible collapse of some of its parts.

Faulty Flame Sensor

Your flame sensor is a safety feature that stops your furnace from filling up with gas. If it detects that the burners aren’t igniting, it shuts off the gas to your furnace. However, if your flame sensor is not working properly, it can be an annoying and dangerous problem. It can either prevent your furnace from igniting or fail to shut off the gas when it should.

Cracks in Heat Exchanger

When your furnace cannot get enough airflow during the combustion process, the heat exchanger overheats and is strained from the expansion and contraction. This will eventually cause heat exchangers to form cracks. If you notice this issue, it’s best to consult professional HVAC contractors right away to solve the problem.

Incorrect Gas-to-Air Ratio

Since your furnace uses natural gas and oxygen mixture, the proportion needs to be just right to ensure that the fuel burns cleanly. When the ratio of oxygen to gas is incorrect, your furnace will create more pollution as it burns fuel. As a result, soot will develop in your furnace, and it will release yellow or orange flames instead of bright blue ones.
