HVAC Maintenance Tasks for Winter

During winter, your furnace and heating system will run all day to keep your home warm and comfortable. That’s why it’s important to make sure your HVAC system is prepared to run efficiently throughout the season.

In this post, trusted local HVAC installation contractor Perfect Degree HVAC lists the steps you can take to prepare your HVAC system for the winter season.

Schedule a Tuneup

Regular maintenance ensures efficient, reliable, and safe heating in winter.  Furnaces and boilers should be serviced once a year, while heat pumps require service once in the fall for heating and once in spring for cooling. It’s best to book a heating system tune-up as early as the fall season to avoid scheduling issues with your preferred contractor.

Change Air Filters

Air filters protect your HVAC system from dirt, dust, and debris that cause inefficient performance and damage to its delicate components. That said, air filters should be replaced regularly. Check the manufacturer’s information for the recommended replacement frequency.

Clean the Furnace

Even though your furnace gets regular maintenance, you still need to clean out its interior chambers.  Dirt and debris must be removed to prevent them from getting sucked up while the furnace or air supply is on. If there’s any obstruction around the furnace, they need to be removed to avoid blocking the airflow. For better results, call a professional furnace installation and cleaning service provider.

Prepare Your Humidifier

Make sure your humidifier is ready to function. Otherwise, it might malfunction and not be able to provide adequate moisture for your home during cold months. Prepare your humidifier by changing the water panel before the start of the heating season. Then, clean its water reservoir to remove microbes and mineral scale buildup. Afterward, wipe down the exterior housing and the intake vents and inspect the drain line to ensure there are no leaks. Additionally, make sure the humidifier is turned on as it is usually not in use during spring.
