Recognizing & Avoiding HVAC Scams This Spring

There are unscrupulous practices and companies in all industries, including the HVAC industry. Bait-and-switch scams are one of the most common forms of deceit, and they’re especially common in the spring.

Read on as Perfect Degree HVAC, one of the area’s most trusted HVAC contractors, shares tips on how to recognize and avoid HVAC bait-and-switch scams.

Aggressive telemarketing. One of the most common forms of HVAC scams is aggressive telemarketing, which can be easy to spot and avoid if you know the pattern. The scam starts with a telemarketer cold-calling you and trying to build rapport by making “special” offers or informing you of non-existent problems in your home like toxic mold in your HVAC system.

You’ll notice that they’re saying all of these things hastily and trying to talk you into availing yourself of their air conditioning services right then and there because it’s a “limited-time offer.” They may also claim their services are in high demand and that there’s an extra discount for the first clients who take advantage of their services.

Be wary, as there’s likely nothing wrong with your HVAC system. Most of the time, these scammers will offer to repair your “damaged” unit and ror replace your fully-functional system with inexpensive parts or units and charge you more than double the actual cost. If you’re anxious that there truly is a problem with your HVAC system, call a reputable local HVAC company–don’t just take the word of an unknown contractor.

Find a reliable HVAC company. The best way to completely avoid these scams is to find a reputable HVAC company with a history of excellent service and customer reviews. This way, when scammers call you, you can easily turn down their calls and offers, as you’ll already have someone regularly maintaining and inspecting your HVAC system.
